Performance

7.5/10

Motivation comes from a 169 hp 2.0L 4-cylinder paired with a CVT automatic transmission powering the front wheels. Performance is perfectly adequate but acceleration is leisurely with a 0-60 mph time of 8.8 seconds based on our testing. The CVT keeps engine rpm low for efficiency rather than speed. Handling lacks agility but the ride quality is very smooth. The sportier SE and XSE grades are modestly improved with a tauter suspension tuning. Road holding is secure if uninspiring. Braking performance is average but the pedal has a natural, easy modulation.

Pricing & Running Costs

8.3/10

With an MSRP range of $22,995 - $28,145, Corolla pricing is very reasonable, undercutting most rivals. Real world fuel economy is excellent, especially for the available hybrid model. Insurance, maintenance and repairs should be quite affordable, helped by Toyota's reputation for reliability and durability. High projected resale values bring additional savings down the road. Overall running costs are very budget-friendly.

Design & Technology

7.2/10

While exterior styling plays it safe, the 2024 refinements lend the Corolla more visual punch. Nicely supportive front seats and ample rear seat room provide comfort, though cabin noise isolation could be better. Controls are simple and intuitive rather than fancy. The standard 8-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration handles the basics but material quality falls short of some competitors. Driver assistance safety technologies abound, including forward collision warning and lane keeping assist.

Comfort & Practicality

8.5/10

The Corolla impresses with a smooth ride quality that soaks up imperfections well. The cabin offers excellent outward visibility and a rearview camera aids parking. Interior space shines in the sedan, especially the rear seat and 13 cu ft trunk capable of holding eight carry-on suitcases in our testing. The hatchback suffers from reduced rear seat legroom and cargo flexibility, but offers 18 cu ft of space. Cabin storage for personal items could be better, but there are handy cupholders and bins.

Safety & Reliability

9.1/10

Crash test results from both major agencies earn top Good ratings, affirming the Corolla's strong safety performance. Myriad standard driver assistance features boost accident avoidance: lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, road sign assist and others. Legendary predicted reliability and durability are practically synonymous with Toyota, inspiring confidence. The warranty protection spans 3 years/36,000 miles bumper-to-bumper and 5 years/60,000 miles powertrain, adding peace of mind.
