Discontinued US passenger-brand context: extra due diligence matters

Isuzu Motors America ceased selling passenger vehicles in the US market in January 2009, ending decades of US passenger SUV and pickup sales. Isuzu Commercial Truck of America continues to operate in the US, selling and servicing Isuzu N-Series and F-Series commercial trucks. However, no Isuzu passenger SUVs, pickups, or crossovers have been sold in the US market since the 2009 model year (final models: Ascender, i-Series, Axiom).

Title and salvage history. Discontinued-market vehicles disproportionately appear in salvage auctions, parts-only sales, and rebuilt-title resales. A Zilocar report flags title brands across all reporting states.

Open recall completion, especially Oasis NADI Takata. The Isuzu Oasis is one of the few non-Honda vehicles on NHTSA's NADI (Non-Azide Driver Inflator) Takata airbag list — a particularly serious subset of Takata coverage tied to higher-risk inflator behavior.

How to read your Isuzu VIN

An Isuzu VIN has 17 characters following ISO 3779. Positions 1–3 are the World Manufacturer Identifier. JAA and JAC mark Japan-built Isuzu vehicles from Isuzu Motors Limited plants (Trooper, Rodeo Japan-built variants, VehiCROSS, Axiom). 4S2 marks a US-built Isuzu from Subaru-Isuzu Automotive (SIA) in Lafayette, Indiana — a joint venture that built the US-market Rodeo, Trooper, Vehicross, and Axiom. Some later Ascender models (2003–2008) carry GM WMI prefixes because they were built at GM's Moraine, Ohio plant alongside the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and GMC Envoy. The Isuzu i-Series pickup (i-280, i-290, i-350, i-370) was a rebadged Chevrolet Colorado / GMC Canyon built at GM's Shreveport, Louisiana plant. The Isuzu Oasis (1996–1999) was a rebadged Honda Odyssey built at Honda's Alliston, Ontario plant. Position 11 is the plant code; position 10 is the model year. Because Isuzu Motors America exited the US passenger market, recall completion status is most reliably checked via the Isuzu Commercial Vehicle Recalls page for any vehicles that fall under continuing service support.

Isuzu NADI Takata airbag and major historical recall campaigns

Isuzu Oasis (1996–1999) NADI Takata airbag coverage: The Isuzu Oasis was a rebadged Honda Odyssey (first-generation) and appears on NHTSA's NADI (Non-Azide Driver Inflator) Takata airbag recall list alongside 1996–2000 Honda Civic Coupe, 1997–2001 Honda CR-V, 1998–2000 Honda Accord, 1998–2001 Honda Odyssey, 1998–2003 Acura 3.5RL, and various other Honda Group vehicles. NADI inflators are a high-risk subset of Takata coverage. Per NHTSA's Takata Recall Spotlight, certain vehicles received DO NOT DRIVE warnings due to the elevated rupture risk.
