Run a MINI Cooper VIN lookup on any used MINI before you buy - and see everything the listing doesn't show. Zilocar's MINI VIN decoder pulls accident history, title brands (salvage, flood, rebuilt, lemon), odometer records, ownership history, and real auction photos - all in one report.
Every MINI Cooper VIN check covers 100+ sources including NHTSA, NICB, and DMV records from all 50 states - the same databases used by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration VIN decoder for recall and safety data. That means a Cooper S with a washed title, a Countryman with a rolled-back odometer, or a Clubman with unreported accident damage - it all shows up in the data, even if the seller doesn't mention it.

What Is a MINI VIN Number?
Every MINI vehicle manufactured after 2000 is assigned a unique 17-character Vehicle Identification Number - commonly called a VIN. This code is not random: each position in the sequence carries specific information about the vehicle.
Positions 1-3 identify the manufacturer. All MINI vehicles carry the WMI code WMW - indicating manufacture under the BMW Group. MINI assembles all of its core models at the Plant Oxford facility in Cowley, England. The Countryman is assembled at the VDL Nedcar plant in Born, Netherlands. This is why a MINI Cooper and a MINI Countryman of the same year will carry the same WMW prefix but different vehicle descriptor codes in positions 4-8.
Positions 4-8 encode the vehicle descriptor: body style, engine type, restraint system, and model variant. Position 10 identifies the model year - for example, K = 2019, L = 2020, M = 2021. Positions 12-17 form the production sequence number unique to each individual vehicle. Running a MINI Cooper VIN decoder against these characters instantly surfaces the vehicle's original factory specs - and more importantly, anything that changed after it left the lot.
