Your Chrysler VIN, decoded
What you just saw, and what's still hidden
NHTSA's free decode confirms what the Chrysler is. It does not tell you what it has been through. Used-Chrysler buyers should specifically verify Pacifica curtain airbag recall status (covering 178,000+ vehicles) and Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid battery fire recall completion.

Active recalls across the Chrysler lineup
Across the Chrysler lineup, NHTSA recall data aggregated by Zilocar shows the Pacifica and Voyager dominate active 2025–2026 campaigns. The expanding curtain airbag recall (NHTSA Campaigns 25V-302 → 25V-573 → 2026 expansion under FCA codes 06D/10D/11D) covers 178,246 Pacifica and Voyager vehicles built May 17, 2022 through August 8, 2025. The Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid battery fire recall (NHTSA 24V-538 superseding 22V-077, FCA code 72B and Z11) covers 2017–2021 Pacifica PHEV vehicles.

What the free decode does not show
A free NHTSA decode returns factory data and open recalls. It does not include:
- Accident records from state agencies and insurance carriers
- Title brands beyond what NHTSA flags (salvage, flood, lemon law buyback, rebuilt)
- Odometer rollback detection across the vehicle's full reporting history
- Ownership timeline and how many hands the vehicle has passed through
- Theft records from NICB member insurance carriers
- Lien and finance records
- Auction photos showing the vehicle's condition at past resale points
NICB reports 659,880 vehicles were stolen in the US in 2025, and stolen vehicles regularly resurface on the used market with reissued titles. NICB's free VINCheck flags only theft and salvage from member insurers; it does not show accident history or odometer detail. A Zilocar vehicle history report layers state DMV title data, NICB salvage and theft records, NHTSA recall data, insurance carrier accident reports, and auction sales history into one document.

How to read your Chrysler VIN
A Chrysler VIN has 17 characters following ISO 3779. Positions 1–3 are the World Manufacturer Identifier. 1C3 marks a US-built Chrysler passenger car (300, 200 sedan historical) from Brampton or other plants. 2C3 and 2C4 mark Canadian-built Chrysler vehicles, primarily Pacifica and Voyager minivans from the Windsor Assembly Plant in Windsor, Ontario. 3C3 and 3C4 mark Mexican-built Chrysler vehicles. The Windsor Assembly Plant has been the primary Pacifica production facility since the model's 2017 launch. Position 10 is the model year code; position 11 is the plant. For VIN-specific recall completion status direct from Stellantis, the Chrysler Safety Recalls portal is the manufacturer source.
The VIN is in the lower-left corner of the dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, the title, registration, and insurance documents. The Mopar Owner's Companion app and Uconnect infotainment system also display it.
Recent Chrysler recall campaigns to verify
NHTSA Campaigns 25V-302, 25V-573, and 2026 expansion, Pacifica/Voyager curtain airbag (May 2025 through April 2026): Covers 178,246 vehicles total: 154,367 Chrysler Pacifica and 23,879 Voyager minivans built May 17, 2022 through August 8, 2025. The right- and left-side curtain airbags from Autoliv ASP (Auburn Hills, MI) may not retain sufficient pressure during deployment, failing FMVSS 226 (Ejection Mitigation). NHTSA testing on June 27 and June 30, 2025 found left and right CABs did not pass excursion limit requirements. Approximately 30% of named vehicles are estimated to have the defect. FCA US recall codes are 06C, 07C, 54C, 55C, 82C, 86C, 87C, 06D, 10D, and 11D across the stacked campaigns. Dealers replace one or both curtain airbags as needed at no cost.
NHTSA Campaign 24V-538, Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid battery fire (FCA code 72B, expanding 22V-077): Covers 2017–2018 Pacifica PHEV vehicles that received the original software remedy under 22V-077 plus 2019–2021 Pacifica PHEV vehicles. The high-voltage battery pack may cause a vehicle fire when parked with the ignition off. Owners are advised not to charge and to park outside and away from structures. Dealers update the battery pack control module software and inspect or replace the battery pack assembly as necessary. Owner notification letters mailed March 6, 2025.
NHTSA Campaign 25V-191 (FCA code 27C), 2025 Pacifica PHEV front brake caliper bracket (April 2025): Bolts securing the front brake caliper bracket may not be tightened properly, which can result in reduced steering control, brake fluid leak, and loss of front brake function. Dealers inspect and replace front brake caliper brackets and bolts as necessary at no cost.

Common Chrysler issues used-car buyers should verify
Pacifica PHEV 12-volt isolator post (2017–2020): A separate recall covered 2017–2020 Pacifica PHEV vehicles where the 12-volt isolator post located behind the driver's seat may develop high resistance, leading to overheating and fire risk with the vehicle on or off.
300 and historical sedans: Used 300 buyers should verify the Takata airbag inflator recall remedy was completed. Chrysler 300 models built 2002–2015 were part of the broader Takata recall, one of the largest in US automotive history per NHTSA's Takata Recall Spotlight.
Recent Pacifica rearview camera (2023): A small recall covered 2023 Pacifica vehicles where a manufacturing error caused the rearview camera image not to display, failing FMVSS 111. Confirm whether the camera control module was repaired.
